_________________________________________FLOUNDER (Platichthys Flesus)_________________________________

Flounders are ground fish. There are a few species of flounder that can be found the yellow-tailed flounder and the winter flounder are two.      Flounder are very common in shallow coastal waters around the US, Flounders are Normally found close to the shore, sometimes within just a couple of feet,

When a flounder hatches, it is no different from any other ordinary fish, but within the first few days of its life, it turns on to one side of its body. The eye that would be facing down migrates to the upper side. Flounders eyes never match up and they have a slightly skewed look. The mouth of a flounder remains as it was in the immediate post-natal stage and appears to be sideways. There are both left and right handed flounders depending on which side is the upper side.

On the Atlantic coast, striped bass range from St. Lawrence River, Canada to St. Johns River, Florida, although they are most prevalent from Maine to North Carolina.   Striped bass tend to move north to near shore waters of the New England coast during the summer, and south to the North Carolina/Virginia Capes during the winter.  The east coast migratory population is composed of three major stocks - Hudson, Chesapeake, and Roanoke.
